About Street Child Liberia
Street Child International Liberia is implementing a four-year Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) project that started in 2022. The project aims to enrol and retain 13,500 highly vulnerable primary school-aged children in education across Liberia.
EFECT uses a child-centred approach combining social, economic, infrastructural, and instructional support to overcome complex barriers and improve primary education access and retention.
Role Summary
The Family Business Officer will work in urban and peri-urban communities to promote education by supporting vulnerable families. This role involves roving across multiple wards to increase caregivers’ awareness, interest, and investment in education through managing family business grants and savings schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in identifying caregivers for project participation.
- Support families in developing achievable business plans.
- Assess business grant plans for suitability and follow up with the Project Manager.
- Help families manage business grants and a 20-week savings scheme.
- Collaborate with Finance to deposit savings into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
- Review beneficiaries’ coaching and mentoring needs; design non-grant support accordingly.
- Provide business coaching and mentoring to families.
- Conduct follow-up visits to monitor grant impact on family livelihoods, especially children.
- Write weekly reports and provide internal updates.
- Collect and report relevant beneficiary data.
- Administer questionnaires ethically, ensuring informed consent and confidentiality.
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness; report challenges promptly.
- Assist in developing mitigation strategies to reduce risks related to the grants scheme.
- Collaborate with other Business Officers to establish best monitoring and evaluation practices.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
Requirements
Education & Skills
- Degree in Social Work or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Strong communication skills in local languages and English, both written and verbal.
- Skilled in data collection tools such as CommCare or KoboCollect.
- Able to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to build strong community relationships and influence positive change.
- Experience collecting and documenting project stories for learning and advocacy.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience implementing cash grants, financial inclusion projects, or similar roles.
- Experience working in urban communities.
- Valid motorbike riding license with riding skills.
- Experience in community mobilization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of supporting vulnerable families and working with children and caregivers.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection policies.
